Level 1 Sketch with Jastroch -- Level 1 Improv w/ Buckman

Post by Jastroch »

AICers,

We're in the process of rethinking our sketch writing syllabus to incorporate more improv and in class writing and development. We want a nice beefy class to test run some of these new ideas. So with that in mind, we're offering 1/2 off our normal sketch cost for the eight week course for members of the AIC. If you're counting, that's $112.50 for 8 weeks of writing instruction. The Class Starts THIS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14th at 6pm. Follow this paypal link to register. We're only offering 4 discounted slots, so act fast!

Also, we just figured out that Dave Buckman is teaching Level 1 Improv on Saturdays. So if you've been on the fence about jumping in on ColdTowne Improv Classes, consider this your added incentive.

Michael Jastroch began his comedy career as editor ‘n’ chief of NYU’s only intentionally funny publication, The Plague. While living in New Orleans, Michael worked in print media as a writer, editor, and art director and wrote and performed sketch comedy and improv with Trap Doors, ColdTowne, and ComedySportz. Michael has continued to write and perform with ColdTowne while in Austin, winning several awards for his improv including “Best Comedy Group 2008” in the Austin Chronicle Reader’s poll and the B. Iden Payne award for “Outstanding Improv Ensemble.” His sketch group, Lovey and Lovey, won Best of Fest at the 2005 Lone Star Sketch Festival and the 2008 Frontera Fringe Festival as well as a Critic’s Pick in the 2008 Austin Chronicle Reader’s Poll. Michael is the Executive Director of the ColdTowne Theater and teaches and directs sketch and improv at the ColdTowne Conservatory. Recently, Michael was nominated for best teacher at the Austin Improv Collective Awards and the group he directs, Midnight Society, was nominated for a B. Iden Payne Theater Award.

Raised in New Jersey, Dave Buckman learned ten improv games one summer at Comedy Sportz! in Rosslyn, Va. He promptly taught them to his fellow theatre students at The American University in Washington DC where they “performed” them for free around campus and developed into a troupe touring and performing at several improv festivals in Pittsburgh, Indiana, Chicago and Austin. Since then, Dave has directed, taught and performed at some of the world’s leading improvisational comedy institutions. After several years studying and teaching improv in Chicago, Dave served as Artistic Director of Boom Chicago in Amsterdam for 2 and a half years, culminating in only the second stage-swap with The Second City’s Main Stage in its 47 year history. After Europe, Dave worked as a director and teacher at The Second City – Chicago and Cleveland, directing Cleveland’s Main Stage revue, “Who’s yer Baghdadi?”. Since 2005, Dave has been living in Austin, TX with his wife and Second City Cleveland alum Rachel Madorsky, teaching and performing with their award-winning troupe The Frank Mills. Dave has won two B. Iden Payne Awards for Improvisational Theater, and five Awards in 3 years from the Austin Improv Collective for Best Improv Troupe, Best Ad Hoc Troupe and Best Teacher. Recently, Dave produced the 2009 Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, directed the ColdTowne revue, Eye for and iPhone and directed the 2009 B. Iden Payne Awards Ceremony.
