Please help save the Warehouse District

No building in the Warehouse District (with the exception of the Spaghetti Warehouse building above) is landmarked. It is one of the most vibrant parts of downtown but could fall victim to its own success as development pressure increases on the intact cluster of adaptively re-used historic buildings and their warehouse dock streetscape.

The area is the original entertainment (red-light) district of Austin (called 'guytown'), and before that was the original Mexican section of town (called simply 'Mexico') and represents an important touchstone to our insdustrial past as well. The buildings range in age from ~50-120 years old.

Please consider taking a quick moment to sign (anonymously if you wish) this online petition:

A proposal that would encourage preservation of the district intact is going to Council next Thursday, August 20th.

Sincere thanks,
Michael McGill
