ColdTowne Theater and improv powerhouse Murphy are proud to host Zabeth Russell and Kevin McShane of IOWest’s Trophy Wife for two nights this weekend.

Formed in 2004 at the iOWest theater in Los Angeles, Trophy Wife consists of some of the funniest, most talented improvisers from across the country. Trophy Wife performs “The Harold,” the signature improvised piece of the iO. Based on a single audience suggestion, Trophy Wife weaves a series of completely improvised scenes, stories, and games into a single hilarious piece.

In 2006, Trophy Wife was dubbed “A Name to Watch” by New York Magazine. In 2007, they were named “Best Harold Team” at the annual Del Close Awards. The cast of Trophy Wife can be seen and heard in numerous national commercials, television shows, popular web videos, and even animated cartoons. Collective film and TV credits include The Colbert Report, XPlay on G4, Mystic River, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, and even Alf’s Hit Talk Show.

A native of Bethesda, Maryland, Kevin McShane attended Oberlin College in rural central Ohio. While at Oberlin, Kevin co-founded and directed the long-form improv troupe “The Sunshine Scouts” while earning a degree in Computer Related Art Production (or C.R.A.P.). Now a resident of Los Angeles, Kevin makes a living by writing, drawing, and publishing Toupydoops, a comic book based on his Schulz Award nominated comic strip of the same name.

Zabeth Russell is a recent LA transplant by way of Boston, where she performed improv and sketch with the Mainstage cast of ImprovBoston. Film and TV credits include the PBS film Breaking the Mold, the FOX-TV pilot Page Six (which she also co-wrote) and the Clint Eastwood-directed Mystic River.

ColdTowne Theater is Austin’s main stage for alternative comedy, with improv, sketch and stand up comedy shows Thursday through Monday nights. Advance tickets and our full line up can be found online at coldtownetheater.com.

Frontgate server is down . . . either that, or the corporate filtering software has finally tagged improv as NSFW.

Duh! Bad. Atom bomb! No wait!! Good. Penicillin!

NO! Bad. The steady erosion of mystery and therefore meaning! Wait wait wait! Good! The substitution of arguably deeper mysteries and forms of meaning!

Goddammit universe just let me take a stand and keep it!
