Erika May and Bob McNichol will begin teaching Level 5: Long-form Techniques on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, beginning June 17th. We will cover some of the traditional scene-driven forms, and continue to emphasize patient scenework and character interaction and the ideas and elements taught in Level 4 and Heroes of Comedy 1 - 3.

As a class we will decide on the form to be performed in an early August graduation show.

Those interested should have completed at least 6 months of improv training in Austin or elsewhere.

Saturdays
10am - 1pm
Hideout Theatre
Beginning June 17th (no class July 4th weekend).

The cost is $140 for 6 weeks of 3-hour classes. Class will be limited to 8.

This is an Austin Improv Collective class.

Instructor Bios:
Erika and Bob like improv very much. They have performed it for over 10 combined years and with studied with some people that know a lot about improv and sketch, which makes them lucky bastards.

They are looking forward to teaching improv on Saturday mornings, because its harder to think yourself out of good ideas at that hour.

Hey Y'all,
Chris Trew asked me to select a topic and do a summer workshop. I got back to him saying that I would like to teach a class that focuses on the Harold. Chris mentioned that you two plus maybe some other people whose email I don't have were going to teach a level 6 class that introduces forms.

I don't want to step on your toes at all. Perhaps we could come up with a syllabus that makes the two classes different, yet compliment each other. Let me know what you think about that. If you decide that the ideas are just too similar and you would prefer that I did not do my workshop, I understand that, too.

Why not have both? Not everyone wants to pay $140 and commit to 6 weeks of classes just to learn the Harold...

Yeah, Justin, I wouldn't worry about it. Any overlap in this won't matter much.

on behalf of bob and i, i agree with andy & nadine - i dont think there would be a problem with the classes overlapping.

we are going to cover a couple of forms, one of which is the harold to give people a foundation in the principles of form work to ultimately make up their own.

on a broader level, i think there is going to be inevitably be some overlap in classes since people may be teaching the same concepts but with different approaches. i took at least 3 character workshops from diff people in chicago - it 's ultimately good to have the different ideas in your improv toolbelt until you find the approach that fits.

hey y'all.

bob and i finalized the class outline last night, and - at the end of it all -punched our couch pillows with excitement.

we are very excited to work with everyone who has signed up, and have room for 2 more if you would like to join.

just to prevent any confusion, our objective is to break down common forms into their discrete elements and gain a greater understanding of forms as a whole.

we are gearing this class to any improviser interested in gaining a better understanding of forms and evolving their own form work.

Are you planning on teaching this again? I want to take it, but I would have to miss a couple of classes and probably the final performance.
