New to Austin

Post by B. Tribe »

Hey Everybody!

My name is Brett Tribe. I just moved here from the armpit of New York State; a little city called Binghamton. In college I performed short-form improv and sketch with "The Pappy Parker Players" for my full four years and received some long-form training from the UCB travel team. I also am a co-founder and head writer of the sketch troupe "Team Boomsplosion". I hope to find a venue and some locals to act in our sketches since I left the other founder/head writer in Binghamton. He's the sexy one.

welcome!
swing by coldtowne theater and introduce yourself! We're primarily as an improv theater, but have a whole bunch of rad sketch endeavors and troupes on the immediate horizon..

Good to meet you, Brett T. How can we see your sketches?

There's all sorts of talent around here. Like Arthur said, come on to ColdTowne and meet a lot of people involved in sketch.

If you have 40 hours to spare this weekend, you could meet almost every single person in the AIC and see them perform at the Hideout.

Hiya Brett Tribe! I'm Sara Farr. I like animation and improv, and more recently, puppets. Welcome to Austin (ATX, A-town, AUS), the Heart of Texas.

Hope you get to see a bunch of shows at the different theaters. They each have a variety of stuff. While you're at it, check out No Shame @ 10pm on the first Friday of every month -- Salvage Vanguard Theater. You can bring any original work (sketch, improv, dance, music, poetry, prose) that's under 5 min and put it up in front of a friendly audience. Maybe I'll see you there! :-)

Greetings, Brett!

I write sketch! I improv! I sing! I act! I cook! Hope to meet you soon. Check out the Tuesday night drop-in improv classes 6-8 at Coldtowne, too, if you wanna grease your chops.

Welcome to a kick-ass town.

Hey Brett!
Welcome to Austin!
My name is Kaci and I also recommend checking out all the theaters in town, the main site this forum is hooked to (austinimprov.com) has a great weekly list of all the shows happening.

Another free thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet is the Tuesday Night Jam at the Hideout Theatre, Tuesday nights 7-10pm. It's a good place to practice improv in a non-directed space.

You definitely should perform some work in the No Shame show Sara recommended. It would be the best way to start putting your sketch work out there immediately.

The best way to get involved with this awesome community is just to be around and say "hi!".
