DAVID MAMET'S AMERICAN BUFFALO

Post by Jeff »

Image

See Mamet's "American Buffalo" performed against the backdrop of a celebrated Austin landmark. Vince Hannemann's Cathedral of Junk lends its idiosyncratic soul to this fresh incarnation of an essential work in American Theater. It's found theater at its best, most sacred, and most profane, as three small-time crooks (played by Jeff Britt, Michael Ferstenfeld, and Steven Alford) plot to steal a rare and valuable coin collection. Directed by Lindsay McKenna.

Special preview performance on Wednesday April 22nd at 7pm, and one Saturday afternoon performance April 25th at 3pm. All other shows Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7pm, through May 2.

$10-$20 suggested donation

You all better fucking come, I've been sweating blood on this fucking play for three goddamned years and I don't wanna see any of you with these excuses, like "aw, well, I'm gonna be so tired after my show," or "but that's when i eat dinner!" or you know -- like, whatever. I don't give a shit!

(pause)

HUH?

(pause)

I mean we're talkin about THEATER here, HUH? Scripted? Remember that? And at THE CATHEDRAL OF FUCKING JUNK no less. Improv is improv and a wonderful thing and I am all for it. I have never said any different, and you know me on this point. But let's just not keep the two apart, huh? And maybe we can treat each other like some human beings. Two hours of your time, that's all I ask for, one night. All I'm sayin', how hard can it be, it's just South Austin. All I'm askin for a little support here.

AMERICAN BUMPALO

It would mean a lot to me you came. I feel the same what Mike said up there, but I'm sayin' it less funny. We've worked hard to put together a good show at a spectacular location, and we're real happy with it. I hope you'll come and watch this weekend. - Britt

This is a really good play. I mean it, seriously. What Mamet does with rhythm and voice is totally worth the price and time on it's own. But add to that Jeff, Mike and the other guy do a fantastic job here. Not good, as in I saw my friends in a play and they were good. But fantastic, as in I totally forgot I was watching friends. They became the characters and so deepened the play considerably. Then add to that you are see this in the Cathedral of Junk, which is a marvelously intriguing place and makes a very nice back drop for the play. Add that all together and it is more than worth it times 3. At that point you'd can't possibly not go. So, go already!
