Who's watching the Watchmen?
I want to go see the Watchmen. I wanted to see it at the IMAX but I can't tell if it's actually coming to the IMAX here. I do know that it's playing at the Alamo Drafthouse South so that's my second choice. I have shows on March 6th and I don't think I can make it through that day without hearing people talk about it so I'm thinking of going to see it at midnight on March 5th. Anyone else wanna go check it out with me?

Re: Who's watching the Watchmen?
As of right now, it isn't coming to the IMAX here. With the exception of The Dark Knight (and the Polar Express), the Bob Bullock IMAX Theater normally gets movies you want to see about 2-3 months later than you would like.vine311 wrote:I wanted to see it at the IMAX but I can't tell if it's actually coming to the IMAX here.
I'm being a big nerd and going down to the IMAX theater in SA with some friends next Saturday.

According to aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes, their consensus is "Visually powerful, intense and uncompromising, Watchmen is an epic comic-book film whose technical and thematic strengths overwhelm its narrative shortcomings."Asaf wrote:I am actually going to give it a week or so before I check out a screening. I want to see what the general consensus is first. Also, I am a big Alan Moore fan to the point where I will consider not paying any money to go see this film and instead waiting until I get it free via Netflix.
In other words, it sounds like they managed to compress all of the graphic novels into one two-hour-and-thirty-minute awesome-fest, or a three-hours-and-thirty minute awesome-fest when the Director's Cut finally gets released, while still leaving in all of the awesome/important parts. After that, it's only a matter if you really like Watchmen or not.
Since I've lived under a rock up until 2005, I've never heard of Watchmen until I saw the totally rockin' trailer, and after giving it a quick readthrough in Book People, I'm totally psyched. I only wish I could find a way to sneak down to San Antonio with Matt to see it in Imax.
Though, there's one slight problem: I bet there will be hundreds of parents bringing their kids to see a "harmless superhero movie". I mean, just by looking at the poster or watching the trailers, nobody would guess from the wide range of colors and retro costumes that it had nudity, blood, or over-the-top violence. In fact, when I do go see this, I'll bring a pad and pencil to jot down how many little kids I see in the audience. Boy, are they in for a surprise.

i heard this weekend that they actually removed Tales of the Black Freighter from the movie version (it might be spliced back in later), as well as the old (Hollis') nite owl story (which- personally - i could give two shits about). which could be the director's version of the film (with those two stories appearing as they do in the book).
Tales of the Black Freighter is going to be released separately, along with the nite owl story. apparently you can watch that on pay-per-view just a few days after the movie is out in theaters, so that is pretty cool.
i'm not seeing the movie until later in march because of baby and improv schedules, but you can bet i am SUPA PUMPED!

I've seen it!
(brag brags brags)
I got invited to the press screening and it was awesome.
Good to know that the Black Freighter is going to be released. It was one of my favorite parts of the graphic novel.
I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but I will say that it has double plus bonus points in STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
