Mike Joplin

Post by Dave »

Mike has never not made me laugh.

His commitment to the moment and to his scene partner is always spot on.
I'd rather watch him do a show than be in said show any day of the week.
I'd could watch him read a phonebook & pick his nose and be glad to pay for the opprtunity.

word.
If you disrespect your character, or play it just for laughs, it will sell some gags, but it's all technique.
It's like watching a juggler-- you'll be impressed by it, but it's not going to touch you in anyway. "

That would be a fabulous show!! Joplin is so fun to watch, I even enjoy when other improvisers play the character Michael Joplin, who is of course playing other characters.

Joplin is one of my heroes. The force is strong with that one. I'm gonna keep reaching for that bar that he's set oh so very high.

I get nervous around Mike. I end up trying to be cool which makes me totally lame.

Mike's commitment is unbeatable.

I most recently saw Joplin in a impromptu performance at Frontera Fest and it was great! The Friday before that I saw him at No Shame trying out a magic spell he found on the internet. It was hilarious!! More Joplin!!!

Joplin is the Bo Jackson of improv
who regularly has his way with Bo Derek
and inspires like Bo Diddley

The man is goddamn clever.
I like how excited he is just on the sides of the stage waiting for the right moment.
Nothing but a professional.
However, he does need to buy his own cigarettes.

Consistently one of the best. Always working his ass off. And, on top of that, funny funny funny.

I haven't played with Joplin a bunch....mostly Maestros. But, man, three of my favorite scenes were with him were in the hat game.
As the lights went down, Joplin said, "Let's play scenes." And we did, and they were funny as hell and made
the hat game so lively for the audience.

Watching him recently in Knuckleball Now....man...he is sooooo into whatever he's doing and working towards
the purpose of the scene. Can't wait to see more. I learn from watching him.
Sometimes it's a form of love just to talk to somebody that you have nothing in common with and still be fascinated by their presence.

Yes, it's true. Joplin makes every show better. He's so committed and supportive that even just having him in he audience makes a show better. He's always rooting for success. It's a fact that's even evident if you watch him watching sports. Which team wins doesn't matter... He's rooting for a good game.

He's intelligent, he's charming, he's a great guy, but what makes all that worth while is the fact that he's not satisfied with it. He's always trying to be better.

His honesty shines through in his acting. He understands the improv theory, but he plays beyond the rules. He can say words backwards.

I could fill pages about why Mike is a great improvisor, but what makes me more proud than saying I'm in an improv troupe with Mike Joplin, is getting to call him my friend.
They call me Dollar Bill 'cause I always make sense.

This is so true! When p-graph had our awkward show at a condo-opening/arts party, Joplin totally made our last few scenes work. Just by being there!
