The awesome thing is that the snow tiger is a callback to Kaci's Vegas video. She bought one of the tigers there.Jessica wrote:I want to play in the snow with a snow tiger!
I can't believe you went to Portland without me getting to tell you about all of my favorite places first!
As a native Oregonian, I have lot's of love for my State, and having lived in Portland a couple of times in my life, here are things that I think are really cool about Portland:
1. Waterfront park. Right in the middle of downtown Portland, there used to be a lot of freeway. Right around the time that Los Angeles started making their freeway systems bigger and bigger, the governor of Oregon said "No! Enough is enough!" and opted instead to tear out a large section of freeway and turn it into a park. The result was that the use of public transportation increased, and traffic decreased. More freeways are not necessarily the answer to traffic congestion.
2. The Rose Garden. The reason that Portland is called the Rose City is because they have an absolutely massive rose garden for the public to picnic in, and stop and smell the roses. They sport all varieties of roses from old to new hybrid roses. I'm guessing in the winter it's pretty sad looking, but in the summer it's amazing!
3. The Pied Cow, Rimsky Korsokoffee, the Crystal Ballroom. Google these places and read about them. The Pied Cow and Rimsky Korsokoffee are the most eclectic coffee shops I have ever been to. Korsokoffee even has moving tables! The Crystal Ballroom is a fabulous live music venue. Old fashioned spring loaded ballroom floor makes it possible to do things on the dance floor that you can't do on concrete.
4. Nature's. To me this will always be the original health food store. My mom used to make muffins and sell them to the health food store, who would then sell them to the rest of Portland!
5. The Portland Saturday Market. You like farmer's markets? you like Artisan's markets? Well this is a huge weekly event with amazingness written all over it! My mom used to sell hand made satchel/purses back when she was a hippy. Silk and Guatemalan fabrics. I bet there's still stuff like that there.
6. The Columbia Gorge. The hour long drive between Portland and Hood River is absolutely breath taking. There are water falls galore! Check out Multnomah falls, or Bridal Veil. Gorgeous!
7. The home architecture. Driving around the Northwest hills of Portland, there are some really simple but beautiful homes. A lot of the homes in Portland were built in the 20's and can have a bit of an art deco feel.

Glad you got to visit Portland. I hope people were friendly to you. Hope you'll get a chance to go back some day when the weather is warmer!

They call me Dollar Bill 'cause I always make sense.
We were only there 3 days, so the advice we did get kept us busy. We would've gone to the Rose Garden, but the roses weren't in bloom yet.Aden wrote:I can't believe you went to Portland without me getting to tell you about all of my favorite places first!
The weather wasn't really that bad, it was just incessantly rainy.
I loved Portland, and would jump at a chance to go back and explore more.
