What are you watching?

Post by mcnichol »

I've wanted to start this for awhile. Films, tv shows, new discoveries of something old, youtube clips, etc. -- whatever you've been watching on a screen. So what are you watching?

Just to start things off...

I watched "In The Realms of the Unreal", the documentary about Henry Darger last night. So good. I'd known a bit about him, but this put so much of his life and work (and how it seemed to relate to each other) in perspective. (Thanks for reminding me, Asaf!)

I've also been watching lots of old music-on-tv type things recently, so I also watched an episode of Hollywood-A-Go-Go (the opening segment may be one my favorite television things right now), 3 dvds worth of clips of bands good, bad, and so-bad-they're-awesome from the show Upbeat!, and an episode of the NJ dance show Disc-O-Teen. Amazing that this somewhat ephemeral stuff still survives. I hope to pull all this stuff together for some future project...

I've been watching the new HBO series "True Blood", written by Alan Ball, who did "Six Feet Under"...

Takes place in a small Louisiana town shortly after vampires have 'come out of the coffin' b/c of the invention of a synthetic blood substitute they can feed on.

Delicious premise

i have told bob more than one that:
a. vampire bill is bizarro you (see below)

and
b. it is too bad you don't live there anymore because this show screams out for needing you in it

i hope HBO on demand decides to put it up again...

Adult swim just started showing an old (2002 or so) British show called Look Around You. It's similar to Tim and Eric in its intentionally low budget production and bizarreness, and similar to John Hodgman's books in its completely made up facts. Here's the first episode:

I thought it would suck...but it's not too bad. Either way, I'm watching it.

I just started watching Wonderfalls last night. It's pretty fun so far, kind of like a reverse quantum leap, as patrick realized. I'll be interested see if it can sustain over the whole season.

Super Jail is awesome and insane and awesome. David Wain plays the Warden. It's like a show about what would happen if Willy Wonka was even crazier and ran a prison. Definitely one of the wildest and best things Adult Swim has ever put on the air.
