Elevator Pitches

Post by vine311 »

An elevator pitch, for those of you who don't know, is a one to two sentence description of who you are and what you do. Or, what a product is and what it's good for. It's meant to be something you can spout off to someone in a short amount of time (like an elevator ride) to give them the most information possible in the shortest amount of time. It would help us out at times if we had an elevator pitch for the different shows that we have here at the AIC. It would be useful when talking to press, handing out flyers, or if you are actually in an elevator with someone who has never seen improv. So, what do you guys think? What would be your elevator pitch for...

Maestro - There can be only one! Twelve improvisers compete for your laughter & applause in an elimination-style game format.

Cagematch - The most dangerous improv show in the world, where two mighty teams of gladiators will take the stage to prove who is the best of the best. (From UCB's Cage-match.com website)

3-fer - What you see is what you get

Austin Organic -

Thursday Night Awesome -

Late Night Jam - Audience members join forces with experienced improvisers to try out classic improv games

Tuesday Night Jam - Improv Free-for-all!

(still working on this)

Don't worry about the late night jam, as that will be revamped here soon to accomodate actual show ideas and will only be a jam when not a show.

We've got versions of most of these already at www.austinimprov.com.
See the following for official title, six-word description, one-line description, and paragraph description.

Tuesday Improv Jam

A free rehearsal and show for everyone

Every Tuesday night improvisers of all levels converge at the Hideout Theatre for a free, low-pressure rehearsal and show -- a Jam if you will.

The Tuesday Improv Jam is a great weekly workout for experienced improvisers and an opportunity for everyone else to get a taste of improv and the Hideout stage. The Jam begins at 7:00pm with a few warm-up games and quickly moves on to more skill-developing games and exercises that vary from week to week. At 9:00 the improvisers roll into an informal show, playing classic games and scenes (like you might see in Maestro on Saturdays). Afterwards the improvisers usually head to a local pub for some socializing. If you're looking to get involved with Austin improv, this is a great place to start.

Friday Improv Threefer

Three improv troupes for the price of one.

With a sampling of three different troupes every week, the Friday Improv Threefer is the fastest way to find out what improv in Austin is all about.

If you're curious about the improv explosion happening in Austin, you can catch three of the guilty troupes every Friday night at the Hideout Theatre. Each troupes gets 25 minutes to show you what they've got and you get three vastly different improv experiences for the price of one. Over fifteen troupes are cycling through these slots so you'll never see the same show twice. Troupes include local troupes and guest troupes from around the United States.

Austin Style Improv

Two troupes. One style. All improv.

Celebrating the many styles of improv in Austin, two wildly different troupes tackle the same format in back to back sets.

Improv comes in many forms, and the Austin Style Improv show is exploring them all one week at a time. Austin is a melting pot of improvisation right now, so we thought it would be fun to get two different troupes every week performing back to back sets of classic improv formats like the Harold, Six Degrees, the Livingroom, Shakespearean Longform, Improvised Musical and many many more. For the discriminating improv patron.

Austin Cagematch

No-Holds-Barred Improv Comedy

Two teams go head to head for the title of Austin Improv World Champions.

Every Friday night two teams of improvisers face off in the ultimate battle for the love of the audience and the right to come back next week. Each team has 22 minutes to do whatever they want, and when the buzzer goes off and the lights come down the audience votes on their favorite team. Who will come back next Friday to defend the title? The fate of Austin improv is in your hands.

Maestro Improv

Elimination-style improv comedy

The Heroes of Comedy are bringing you Austin's best and brightest short-form improv comedy.

The Heroes of Comedy present ten of Austin's virtuoso improv comedians on the Hideout stage, but only one of them will make it to the end of the show. The improvisers play games and scenes, you score them and we eliminate the low-scoring players after each round. The surviving improviser is declared the winner and MAESTRO and awarded a crisp new Canadian five-dollar bill. If you’re looking for fast, funny improv comedy with lots of audience participation, this is the show for you.

Those are great descriptions Andy, but I don't think they're "Elevator Ptiches." We're talking 2 sentences at the very most.

Well, if that's the case then why not John Moschitta Jr. to advertise for us in elevators?!

I think he was posting a layered pitch. If you have no room, you use the top, or 6 word pitch. For a little more room, you use the middle or 1 sentene pitch. For a lot of room, you can use the paragraph pitch.

The middle one in each of the categories is your elevator pitch.
