After months of preparation and rehearsal, I am excited to announce to you guys that Scottish Rite Theatre's production of 12th Night is finally opening! www.twelfthnightaustin.com
I am so incredibly proud of this show, and I really want to urge you to come out and see it. The cast has made me laugh myself into side-pain nightly, and the play itself is such a good one.
As many of you know, this show is being done in the proper period, with live traditional and original Renaissance-inspired music (composed by music director Michael McKelvey,) for violin, oboe, guitar, and drum. We are also serving Elizabethan snacks and drink at intermission. Sadly, no meat pies, but rather roasted hazelnuts and the like, just like they did it at the Globe.
Our playing space is the Scottish Rite Theatre, the oldest surviving theatre in Texas. Built in 1863, that theatre is like a time machine. It is in absolutely pristine condition, with pin light stars on the ceiling, a gorgeous wooden stage, and hand-painted backdrops from 1870 on an ancient but perfectly working pulley system.
Our most valuable asset has been the players, and I have been very lucky to nab these extremely talented (and super-nice) actors:
Nathan Jerkins
Shannon Grounds
Robert Matney
Jill K. Swanson
Michael Mergen
Judd Farris
Suzanne Balling
Ryan Crowder
Brock England
With that said, please come see the show. Come early, and help us get opening weekend off to a bang! And if you can, help me spread the word by passing along our e-mail flier or web addy. Besides you dudes who I have worked with since I arrived and the few people who I knew before I came, my Austin network remains quite small, and I really do want people to see this one.
If the audience has half as much fun watching it as we have been having putting it together, everyone is in for a really great evening.
