Canadian Superiority: They Televise Their Comedy Festivals

Post by Mo Daviau »

I was just cruising the CBC Television website to see if I can score tickets to a taping of a show you've never heard of when Bob and I are in Halifax in August, and I stumbled across this:
http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/program/ ... n+McDonald

As well as prime-time airings of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Halifax Comedy Festival, Just For Laughs, etc. It seems as though Canadians have an interest in their comedians and that their national TV network is willing to give them exposure.

An American equivalent would be ABC showing two prime-time hours of the Del Close Festival or even Aspen.

I find it interesting that comedy festivals are given the same time and respect as an awards show or a sports event on Canadian TV. It might be the Canadian Content laws, but man, wouldn't it be cool to see festival footage on TV???

I'm jealous.
