Dear Austin Area Improvisors,

My name's Graham Schmidt. I used to improvise, but was somehow sucked into the swirling vortex of scripted theatre. The show I'm directing, Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya," includes several active and former improvisors, and we'd be plum honored to see all of you talented thespians in the audience.

Kadigan & Mountweazel Theater presents Uncle Vanya: Scenes from Country Life, Anton Chekhov’s poignant tale of lost time and unrequited love. The play centers on the story of Vanya, an aging man who comes to the painful realization that he will never fulfill the dreams of his youth--romance, travel, heroic deeds--but instead will live out his life in the middle of nowhere, managing the accounts on his cruel brother-in-law's country estate. Will Vanya find happiness, or some sort of redemption for his suffering? Come see KMT's production to find out.

Following the success of Kadigan and Mountweazel's premier production, Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, the upstart Austin theater company's second effort features the directorial debut of Graham Schmidt. The venue--the garden-patio of South Austin's Green Muse Cafe--has the look and feel of a Russian country dacha, with hints of authentic Austin funk, and offers a small audience of about 60 an emotionally intimate theatre-going experience. The skilled cast and crew draws on experience with playwrights such as Pinter, Beckett, and Shakespeare to bring Chekhov's modern classic to life.

Composed of veterans of Shakespeare at Windedale Program and Broccoli Project, Kadigan and Mountweazel Productions is dedicated to giving a voice and a stage to local up-and-coming actors, directors, and writers.
