This class was a hit when I did it last October. And we're doing it again.
IMPROVISED SINGING (April 29 Saturday 1-5pm)Learn how to rhyme, harmonize, use song structure to your advantage, communicate with the musical improviser and sing with commitment and power--off the top of your head! By the end of this workshop, you will sing an improvised song with live musical accompaniment and backup singers. No singing experience required. $45
It sounds like a lot of people are interested in this one, so let me know if you wanna register.

The Singing Workshop is this Saturday.

I only have a few spaces left in class, so if you are interested, please email me at shana@merlin-works.com.

I can only have a limited number because everybody gets a chance to sing a whole song at the end.

This is going to be awesome.

God, this is so terrifying. That means I should do it. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to Scarborough Faire Saturday. When are you going to offer the workshop again? And how much extra does it cost if I need you to grab me by the ear and force me to attend?

Even just the THOUGHT about trying to do improvised singing SCARED ME TO DEATH last year. BUT I, like Kareem, had gotten to the point where I'd had enough improv classes that I interpreted the knot of fear in my stomach as a sign that I HAD to sign up and try it. That's what improv will do to you -- make you belligerently try scary stuff just to prove to yourself that you can do it and not DIE! So, I signed up and went to this workshop, and as you can see, I did NOT die.

In fact, I have to say that this was probably the most fun workshop I've ever taken. At one point, while I was watching the other students singing their songs, I felt an honest-to-God warm-glow-of-happiness in my chest... and it was NOT a mild stroke or heart attack. It was instead a surge of love for the act of creation and communication wrapped in the beautiful package of lyrical self-expression!

However, though I thoroughly enjoyed the last Improv Singing workshop, there was a lot to learn, so I have signed up again.

This workshop is amazing. It is awesome. And it is incredible what a good improv teacher, with the support of a good musical improviser, can help you accomplish.

Yeah Shana! and Annette! and Pat!

My next Improvised Singing Class will probably be some time next Fall.

There's a $10 shipping/handling fee for grabbing you by your ear and pulling you to class.

I just want to let the world know how much fun we ALL had at this workshop. So much so, there are rumors that Shana will be leading a 6-week Improv Singing intensive, soon. PLUS there was more talk of an ALL BOY musical improv troupe forming. Hmmm.

Some highlights...

I love cake
Eat it every month at work
Yeah, it's so nice
Our duties we get to shirk

...'cause I'm a
BACHELOR

I want back in the closet!
It's where I keep all my stuff

Word. That was a super fun class - if and when Shana works out the six week class, I'm all over that! Thanks, Shana!

I think this 6 week improvised singing class is a great idea. I'm thinking we could do different song styles, duets, musical, scene-song-scene, opera, and more. And I could bring in different musical improvisers to play with.

I added a poll up top so you can tell me what date would work best for you. You can also leave a post or pm to tell me

-that you're interested
-that there's more than 1 day of the week that works for you
-what month you'd like the class to start in

This workshop would be open to anyone, even if you haven't taken my improv singing classes before. I'm thinking this might start sometime in June.

I voted for Sunday afternoon, but really I'd be able to do it Saturday or Sunday.

As for when it should start...as soon as possible! Must...conquer...fear.

I voted for Saturday afternoon as my preferred day to meet, but could also do Sunday afternoon or Thursday night. May or June start works for me.

I voted for Saturday afternoon as well, with the caveat that I think that Bob McNichol's level 5 class will be on Saturdays coming up soon, and a bunch of us are planning on taking that, too. As long as it doesn't conflict with another improv class, though, I'm up for whenever.

I'm already vibrating with excitement.
