Weeeeeeird, I JUST learned this warmup last weekend at my playground auditions. Did you just hear of it too? What rat on which boat brought the Schneider warmup seed to Austin? Or is it indigenous?
They call me Dollar Bill 'cause I always make sense.

Okay true story: first time I did this game, I kept wondering what a french diner was (as in, "Hey french diner, what are you doin?")

So you're really excited about the 99 cent shakes at Sonic.
So I just learned that there is no cent symbol on the keyboard.

I bet she did! Did you know that this thread starts with Justin saying (or implying) he had seen that clip?
Thanks for posting the link, by the way. I hadn't seen it before you did.

Indeed that was the point, but I reserve the right for me and for any of you to post about Fred Schneider apropos of nothing.

Phoenix got it from Andrew Humphries, a friend of ours in Chicago, in December 2007 - he's in The Republic, a Harold team from IO. He was visiting for the holidays and brought it to Bingo Jam.

What's funny is that right off the bat, two (meaningless) variations of it sprung up immediately on accident.

Andrew, most of us remember, introduced it as "What's Fred Schneider doing?"

Jacque of Mail Order Bride couldn't remember Fred's last name, so she changed it to "Hey there, Fred, what are you doing?"

(Most people seem to play it as "Hey, Fred Schneider - what are you doing?")

Chris of Light Rail Pirates later purposely / purposefully combined it with the warmup game "What are you doing?" (a person does object work and is asked what they're doing, they reply with something they're not doing, the person who asked them starts doing what the other person said, etc.).

Fred Schneider spread like wildfire, though, for sure.

Here's a story on NPR about the Chicago's House Theater. At some point, the actors warm up by playing Fred Schneider.
