Another Alum Returns

Post by joeyc »

Hey guys,

Jesus, a lot has changed since I left Austin. Don't know how many people here remember Monks Night Out, but I used to play with them at the Velveeta, and at the Bad Dog. I also used to play with Ray Prewitt's fourth grade class, Fatbuckle, the Oxymorons in San Antonio, and direct the Cheese Pistols at the Velv. Well, it's been a while, but I am headed back to Austin for the Summer.

I'm in Chicago now, been working here ever since, but it looks like you guys in Austin have been working too. The scene looks great here. Like a little mini Chicago. When I left, the only Festival in town was Big Stinkin, and we know what happened there. Sorry Ed. Also, when I left, they stopped doing improv at the Velv. Now it looks like that is going again too. (Don't let the comics be to tough on you, they like to say they hate improv, but most of them have done improv on that stage, and were really quite good at it.) NCT was adjusting to their new name, and NOBODY was doing longform.

But the biggest difference so far is that there is now a community. It used to be that improvisers did their thing at their own theater, and that was it. (Although, I do remember a certain Basket Ball Tourny between Fatbuckle and Well Hung Jury. We won.)That's what makes Chicago so great, the network of people, and that is what will make Austin great. Hope to catch some of your shows when I'm in town, maybe I can meet up with some you, share road stories, give you some insight on the art, history lessons on downtown improv, or just do some bits on Congress.

See you guys soon,

We can't wait to have you back !

My friend -

I cannot wait to see you back here ! Hopefully you will teach some workshops while you are here. I personally would like to mention that you are such a PHENOMINAL improvisor and I really enjoyed watching you play on your Harold team when we both played at IO. I cannot wait to play with you here and learn from you !

You are so sweet, but you and Erin had better keep away from me with your Queso trick. It's just not fair. It's too good!

PM me about workshop details. We'll get that going.

yup. I start touring again in the fall. The road calls, and when Iowa calls, you better answer.

I know, I am kinda pissed I'm leaving Chicago for the Summer. You wait out the entire nine month winter for three months of flip flops, shorts, and beer patios.

Damn!

I am a red head. I am going to bake!

I could remember it wrong but there's always one day in March or February when it mysteriously breaks above 40F and people haul out the grills and shorts (and beer) for one day of sunny hedonism before it dips back into the miserable gray for a few more months. Maybe that's just a Wisconsin thing.

hey Joey

this is great news. definitely let us all know when you get here...

and you didn't specifically mention it, but I'm sure there's room to perform as well. at the very least, a drunken Jam.

safe travels,
Bob.
