Hello and good evening. My name's Patrick. Here's some introductory comments:
I've always been a fan of the occasional improv show, and recently decided to start taking some classes. I've enjoyed it immensely and decided to (try to) become more involved in the Austin improv scene.
So I joined this forum, and well here I am.
It might be too early for this...but...
I have an idea. I'm almost afraid to post it, for fear that someone might steal my idea (though really, if they did, no big deal). I'm a producer at Austin Public Access TV (albeit a new one). I was considering, once I get cleared to use the studios, about doing a show...call it Access Improv, and every week feature a different improv troupe to do a live show in front of an assembled studio audience. This wouldn't be for a while, because I'd need to take some additional training, get a crew together, and wait until the start of a season, but I wanted to see what people in the local improv community think about that idea. Might make some people in town aware of the community that wouldn't otherwise be, might go far. Good chance it wouldn't, but would probably be lots of fun either way.
Again, this wouldn't be for a while, but if lots of people think it's an awesome idea and would get on board, that might encourage me to put more into it and make things happen faster.
Anyway, regardless of all that, good to be here and hope to see you guys out and about and all that.

While I don't think your idea is exactly similar, you may want to take a look at Sacre Bleu! every now and then. He tends to invite improv troupes to perform on air for several weeks at a time and sometimes there's a (albeit small) studio audience.
Maybe you've already seen it. If not, check it out and use it to improve upon your own idea. I like it, but I'm afraid the status quo might be stealing your thunder.

I'm fully behind this idea, and I think you would really be helping out Austin improv if you dedicated an entire show to it. Sacre Bleu features many things, including improv sometimes, but an access show dedicated to Austin improv would be super. There are so many troupes, and so much talent around the collective here, you'd be hard pressed to run short on content.Pdyx wrote:Access Improv, and every week feature a different improv troupe to do a live show in front of an assembled studio audience.

I guess what they say about there being no such thing as an original idea is true. I haven't seen Sacre Blue! I'll check it out and consider what might be done differently. I'm going to DVR it right now.
In that case, what about a show where there's a plane crash and some people get stuck on an island? Or better yet, a legal criminal drama show?
Patrick, I support you in any endeavor that puts improv out there for a wider audience. Viva la improv!

A think a live audience would help... maybe only if it was a big audience, huh? Hm.
They call me Dollar Bill 'cause I always make sense.

Yes, a BIG audience could help keep the energy up and amplify the fun factor of whats happening on stage. Trick would be to get a consistently big audiences. I will volunteer to sit in.DollarBill wrote:A think a live audience would help... maybe only if it was a big audience, huh? Hm.
