"If necessary, however, under long-standing principles of self defense, we do not rule out the use of force before attacks occur -- even if uncertainty remains as to the time and place of the enemy's attack," Bush wrote.
This makes me sick to my stomache. Not that I trust Iran, or think they're not a potential threat, but in light of this scumbag's track record, he should be choosing his words more wisely. Hell, I'd settle for just not-piss-poorly.

Lord, where is Bill Hicks when we need him?

You work your life away and what do they give?
You're only killing yourself to live
and just to show you he's not kidding: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11857580

(seriously though, if anyone else likes Bill, I have a few documentaries on him plus some live shows [video], like his last show at Igby's and the Chicago show where he completely loses it. I'd love to watch them again.)

Bill Hicks didn't die. He became Alex Jones in what may be the world's greatest gag.
=
Sadly, I can't take credit for this theory, but the person who came up with it has convinced me. Both are loud-mouthed, anti-establishment, angry, in your face but still part of the underground sub-culture type Austinites. Even the time lines are right. Right as Hicks goes away, Jones breaks onto the scene. Hmmmmmm...

Sounds like a prime Improvisers Bonding Through Not Doing Improv opportunity. We should get together and watch Bill go apeshit.mcnichol wrote: (seriously though, if anyone else likes Bill, I have a few documentaries on him plus some live shows [video], like his last show at Igby's and the Chicago show where he completely loses it. I've been saying that the current political situation would fuel Hicks brilliance, were he alive today, but really he'd probably be unable to control his rage and he'd just burst into flames on stage.

i have never watch bill hicks. i've listened to bill hicks, but i've never watched bill hicks. i would love to watch bill hicks, especially after reading the PREACHER comics.
Oh, and i also want to mention that i clicked on this expecting an odd forum about how christ's visage appeared on a saltine cracker and instead got a heaping slab of bush. not too happy about that one.

I agree. This stuff is great. Even in his last show, he's still on fire.kbadr wrote:Sounds like a prime Improvisers Bonding Through Not Doing Improv opportunity. We should get together and watch Bill go apeshit.
Now, not to take away from any of that, but thanks to the magic of the interweb and Google, some kind soul has placed a lower quality version (of an already low quality tape) of the "Loses It" show (from Chicago around 1989) on GoogleVideo.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 3174695773
It builds for the first few minutes an then he explodes (for the first time) around 3:30.

the benefits of having a classical education...
this reminds me of ROME, when if there was any rebel rising of any kind, the CEASAR would send out an ass load of legions there. more than was necessary. just to show that if you fucked with ROME, they weren't going to fuck around. they're send a massive chunk of the army, and oh yes, will they smear your empirically impovershed ass. of course, sometimes the enemy would commit mass suicide like Masada. me? i just want my gas at a cheap price and a booming economy so i may feed my materialistic needs. not sure how i mentioned a whole bunch of dead jews and follow that up with wanting cheap gas and useless material possessions but damn does this foot of mine taste horrible. time to grab some lunch.

I agree. And, just to be clear (and to further tangentialize this thread), we could have a Bill Hicks viewing night (for us only) at the theater if there's more interest than a living room full. Additionally, much of my archive is in the PC-only formats of AVI/MPEG1, etc, which could easily run from the light booth PC (as well as the multi-Codec DVD players that are at my place and at 1813 Drake).beardedlamb wrote:bill hicks is one of the greatest comedians to ever live.

I would be honored to host a Bill Hicks viewing night at my place, and yes, owning a DivX DVD player rocks, in case any of you were wondering.mcnichol wrote: ...as well as the multi-Codec DVD players that are at my place and at 1813 Drake.

Well, sounds good to me. (and yes, I love having one of these too. I think you have the Philips 642. I've got an Avayon DSP-1000.)Evilpandabear wrote:I would be honored to host a Bill Hicks viewing night at my place, and yes, owning a DivX DVD player rocks, in case any of you were wondering.
Here's what I've got (off the top of my head):
-Totally Bill Hicks (1994, documentary) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0149281/ Made shortly after his death.
-Outlaw Comic: The Censoring of Bill Hicks (2003, TrioTV documentary) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371052/ I highly recommend this one!
-The Infamous "Loses It" Show (1989, Chicago's Funny Bone) If you've ever think you're having a hard time up on stage, you should see this.
-his last show at Igby's (Nov 1993, LA)
-Revelations (1993, live in London)
-live at Edinburg Comedy Fest (1990-ish, Scotland) A shorter set, but good.
So someone out there probably has Sane Man, It's Just A Ride, or Revelations.... who's got it?

You have the Avayon 1000?!?! I've always wondered how those were. I was debating between the Avayon and the Philips. But Walmart had the Philips on sale for $40, so I went in that direction. They say that the Avayon will play subtitles in the DivX format, which is waaay awesome. Do you have to update the firmware often on yours? I heard you can make the Avayon region free with a certain remote control code.
Checking the current Region/Zone
* Press Open on the remote control
* Press 1030
* Press Display
* The current region will display at the bottom left hand corner of the TV screen
Setting the desired Region/Zone:
* Press Open on the remote control
* Press 1030
* Select Region
* Press 0 for all regions
* Press 1 through 6 for specific region
* The selected region will display at the bottom left hand corner of the TV screen
Have you tried that yet? If you do and you break your DVD player, I claim full deniability...
As I have never seen Bill Hicks, I trust all of you to make the decision for me as to which one would be best for a visual introduction.

Bill Hicks is brilliant.
Alex Jones is sometimes brilliant, but scary.
I see some similarities.
I've met Alex Jones, and he was actually a very nice guy. Also, anyone who knows anything about Alex Jones also knows that he hangs out with comedians A LOT (just to further your theory Wes!). In fact, Alex Jones has been seen in the audiences of Joe Rogan AND Doug Stanhope shows at the Cap City Comedy Club.
Also. I would LOVE to have a Bill Hicks viewing night, on account of the fact that we can then have a Lenny Bruce viewing party as well!

i am married to a human library.Here's what I've got (off the top of my head):
now, for the real point of my post...
ladies - i have watched several bill hicks documentaries/recorded stand up routines and he's really funny. a little masturbatory jokes in there, but largely self-deprecating.
net - bill hicks humor is not completely a sausage fest. you will laugh - albeit uncomfortably sometimes, but laugh all the same.
