i am.
i am losing my battle with unemployment. i need a job, ya'll. i need something way flexible (so i can be gone for tours, but can be devoted "full time" otherwise) that pays well. dreaming? i think so.
before this whole katrina, i actually had a "career" in normalville, so i'm not a numb brain.
if anyone hears of anything, please let me know. you are nice.

Anyone in this same situation sould look into temping. Join up with as many temp agencies as you can. Tell them you'll be gone on tour every now and then and you're looking for only short term stuff. It's awsome... if you work your ass off for the first couple assignments they'll love to staff you. I don't know how much temp work there is in Austin, but in Chicago it's awsome. I just call in my availability and say "I'm gonna be here for 2 weeks... hook it up." And if you belong to enough agencies they will hook it up for sure.
Google "temp agency austin" or "employment agency austin" and send your resume to as many as you can. If you don't hear from them, then call them in a couple days. I promis this is the sweetest way to work whenever you want.

UT has UTemps. They send you to different offices around UT. You might net something interesting there: http://www.utexas.edu/hr/empl/utemps/
And then there is Randstad agency, for the "arty" types, though I think it's just regular clerical crap: randstad.com
These are the folks I'm signing on with in September when I become an unemployed artiste again.

The American Cancer Society is hiring Quitline Evaluators. It's a fairly souless job where you make tons of out bound calls. It can be fairly soul wrenching & they don't hire smokers. We're located up north & it's often very cold inside. However, they do pay $11 an hour, they have 4-5 hour shifts (for no more than 25 hrs/wk) that are very flexible, it's a very non-conservative environment with a casual dress code (you're allowed to wear shorts & flip flops), a work force that is 85% women, and yours truly works there (albeit with another job though.)
And if you do decide to get a fulltime job there, the benefits will rock your socks off. For example, I get 25 days of paid vacation a year not including major and minor holidays.
Check our website for a job description.
Email me for the hook up.

Ashby staffing is nice. I joined all the temp agencies and they are by far the best. They even call you and let you know when things come in, so you don't have to keep calling obnoxiously. I actually turned down a bunch of things befor I started working here at the Texas Council on Family Violence. It's really laid back and I don't really do anything. Yesterday was pretty stressful because not only did I have to make copies, but I also had to decide what I wanted to pre-order at Chipotle today. I'm exhausted!

I've yet to have luck with Texas temp agencies - although I've tried them many times.
It might also be the whole: "You already have a job" thing.
Also, Tami: Email me. My email address is the same as my name, which is also the same as my login here, at gmail.com, only there's a period in between my first and last name.
So it would be my first.last@gmail.com
