Anyone got a decent dentist? doctor?

I have dental insurance!!

Let me know if you have a dentist you trust (and give me the info, please). I don't want a quack, but I also want to keep inexpensive so the costs go under my insurance.

Also, need to see a general doctor for a check-up. They have to be approved by Blue Cross, so I'll need to cross-reference. As of now, however, I'm just picking names out of a book... and using stereotypes of their last names to decide. Would prefer a better method.

Thanks.

I wouldn't say he is necessarily inexpensive, but fairly priced, someone I trust, and centrally located, yes. I've had a bit of work done by him (just had a crown put in yesteday morning) and he was always very clear about my options, the total costs, pros and cons, etc.

Dr. Martin Stocker DDS
512.476.1922
1721 W. 35th Street (a few blocks from MoPac)

If you do end up using him, please tell them (Tami is the office manager) that I recommended him.

Where does a guy go when he does NOT have any health insurance?

Any information on that?

Yes. People's Community Clinic is a good start.

Does she call you back when you call to ask questions? I just switched to my second doctor at ARC South and I'm getting frustrated because, well, my first doctor there (Sunita or something) was one of the worst I've ever been to but this guy, Dr. Marking, I like. My problem is that I'm having some problems that are changing daily and I don't understand what all my options are. So I've been calling and two things happen, they don't call back and, when I do get someone, I never get to actually talk to the doctor, only medical assistants. How is Anne in terms of phone availability because that office is so convenient and it would be awesome to switch without the med records hassle?

I like Tami and everything, but I'm not sure I'd let her near my mouth with dental tools.

Hi Lisa - I haven't had to call her, but my co-worker and his family who told me about her - have, they like her and feel she is responsive.

On the East side of I 35 on Cesar Chavez about a mile or so down is the MAP Building. You can file for a MAP ( medical assistance program) card and get your basic healthcare needs covered. The MAP card covers prescription drugs (Though Vicodin and other 'in demand' painkillers are not given out or covered much due to the abuse factor) but you can get testing done, surgery, and even Emergency Room visits covered with a small co-pay. Brackenridge Hospital is one of the placed the MAP card is good at, and they will give you a list of clinics and places you can use it at. The only downside is that there can be a long wait at some clinics for 'routine' appointments.

In the worse case scenarios, just head to Brackenridge's ER. They have to treat you regardless of your abiulity to pay or health insurance status, and are used to folks with no insurance, which means you can work out a payment plan and such. They can even help you get certain antibiotics and such, however Wal Mart has added a bunch of new meds to their generic list which will only cost you 4 bucks. (Mostly antibiotics...no painkillers though)

Here's the link for the MAP Program's web page:

I like Dr. Ahmadian. He is a good dentist. He got my teeth very clean after not visiting a dentist for several years.
