I caught this a few days ago; what's really strange is this assertion that Stewart might want all the badness of current America and more just so he has more material. Jon's response is typical Stewart - brilliant, serious, funny, and sad.

yeah, it was somewhat offensive to imply that comedians want things to go bad just for material. jon stewart was awesome, he's like: we'll find other things to make fun of, like media people.

marilyn manson used to say he voted for bush because awful political times create good art. then he would cite eighties music and art as an example which pretty much destroyed his argument.
art comes from pain.
not all art, but usually the best art.

Art can come from pain.
But contributing to universal/global pain to replace your lack of personal pain, just to contrive some sort of inspiration, is pure horse shit.
