Hey,

I bought an "All in 1" card reader/writer (USB 2.0) but it doesn't work. I threw away the packaging and there is no name brand listed on it, so I don't know how to look up help on the internet. All I know is what I can see -- the box is clear blue plastic and has 4 slots. The only printed text on it is what I wrote above. On the back it has a model & serial number, but a google search of those things doesn't return anything helpful.

My computer seems to not be reading the device correctly. When I plug it in, it registers 4 drives and opens AutoPlay & searches for files. But with my camera card in it, it doesn't find anything. I know the card works and has pictures on it. I used my Dad's Cannon card reader and it worked fine. Only one of the four folders does anything when I click on it, and then the computer tries to search the drive, but then says "please insert disk".

What can I do? If the computer incorrectly installed the hardware, is there a way to undo that and try again?

Offhand - it sounds like a format/driver error. What format are the pix on the card stored in? Check the card reader manufacturer's website for updated drivers.

If only I knew who the manufaturer was... Hm.

Go into "my computer" and see if the new device is listed. It may show a manufacturer name there. If not then right-click on the device icon, select properties and go through the tabs to see if manufacturer's name is there.

Alternatively. Go to run, type "diagDX", hit "enter" and see if the device shows up anywhere on those tabs.

You could also just go to a Best Buy or CompUSA-like website and browse through their USB card readers until you see one that looks like yours. Time-consuming but workable...
