Austin Improv

Hey folks, I don't have a huge living room, but I have me some cable TV. I'm happy to have a few people who may not be blessed with cable over at my digs tonight to watch Available Cupholders on Sacre-Bleu.

It's at 10pm.

If anybody's interested, just post here or call me, and I'll give some directions.

What's that?

It is the live varitey show on Public Access Channel 10 that several improv troupes are guesting on as as way to generate interest in OOB. Starter Kit & Pgraph have been on these past 2 weeks. Cupholders tonight, and GGG next week.

Wednesdays @ 10pm on Channel 10.

What part of the city are you in? I may be interested I ain't gotz no cable.

Ah, shows what I know. Who's producing/scheduling it?

Justin York talked at the AIC meeting about how to become a producer on the Public Access channel. It looks to be pretty easy. I considered it briefly (I liked the idea of creating a public access show) until I saw the cost of the classes and stuff. [I had some friends who had a pretty popular movie review show, with Korey & Martin & (girl?) but I can't remember the name.]

The Reel Deal! Loved that show. Korey still does movie reviews on the web. They cartoonimate their reviews now.

you're gonna want to see this. cupholders are resurrecting a really old school form that is a spoof of the Antiques Roadshow.
We'll be appraising items and then doing a series of scenes using the object, then returning back to do a new appraisal with a different item, etc.
then i think after a break we'll be doing a Q & A in character of the appraisers taking viewer phone calls.

i'm pumped.

I'm in the southerly centrally part. Between Riverside and Oltorf, right smack on I35.

I got it on DVD, brotha. Me and Roy and Val and Jerry had a blast watching it at my place. Definitely some tech issues. But a hoot!

I thought the first set was extraordinarily funny, and very well done. I loved the exchange regarding the statue. Everytime kaci would abuse the statue, your little visual annoyance ticks were perfectly timed. And your button about the price-tag was perfect. And the croissant on the head was very nice. The whole first set was great.

Then there was a break, and they brought on that bratty prank-caller kid, and his terribly unfunny 6 minute clip... That was hard to watch.

The second set (phone calls) was still very funny despite the phoneboard operators cutting people off left and right. Especially all the interactions with "Cripple Gary" were a pleasure.

So yeah, great show. But the tech fucking sucked. At first there was no sound at all, and then the sound came in quickly with a burst of feedback. After that, it leveled off, but was set way too high, so that for the rest of the show, any time anyone raised their voice even slightly, the sound peaked and sounded overblown and staticy.

Plus the camera switching was terrible, though Kaci informs me that there were no camermen, so that explains a lot.

But you guys came off as funny and confident despite the tech problems. And something tells me that tech problems are par for the course on Public Access, so I'm sure most of the viewership took it in stride.
