Once you have done that and have achieved some level of moral high ground - is this not the worst-managed this country has ever been? I don't mean ideology, I mean implementation - base competence. I didn't agree with a lot of Clinton's decisions but for the most part the guy hired people who were suited for their jobs and executed them reasonably faithfully. He did his own job (and then some) but at the end of the day, bills were paid, streets got paved, and he took seriously the threats the nation faced. I don't know if he really cared or not, but at least he acted like he did. He acted like the President.

So did GHWBush. And Reagan (doddering yes, but he could play Statesman with the best of them when it really mattered.) Carter. Ford. Hell, even Nixon in his last days stood tall before he stepped down. LBJ. Kennedy. Ike. Truman. FDR.

How far back do you have to go to find someone who just obviously didn't give a shit, and not only that, didn't give a shit about giving the impression that he actually did give a shit, if only to shine on the unwashed masses? Hoover? Harding? McKinley? Buchanon? Has this country been managed or led worse in the past century? Guh. This last week has been like slamming my head in a door and I fucking hate Louisiana (for cause.) Nobody should suffer like that.
