I'm going to be meeting my dad for dinner in Dallas next week and he's put me in charge of finding a restaurant.
Anyone have suggestions for cool Dallas restaurants? Anything near the Galleria?
Thanks!

OH I HAVE THE BEST ONE!!!!!
Tirilli's! In lower greenville!
http://restauranteur.com/terilliscom/dallas.htm 2815 Greenville Ave, Dallas - (214) 827-3993. They have live jazz!. Really good live jazz. The food is amazing, and it's really affordable. It's a super nice place, but you can be as casual as you wanna be. Music starts at 7:30 on Tue-Thur and at 8:30 on Fri - Sat. So you could get there early for conversation and stick around for entertainment.
If you want totally casual, fantastic tex-mex theres a restaurant about a block or two north of Terilli's called
The Blue Goose that the Sterns never miss.

I had an internship in Dallas and the company put me up in a shitty apartment right next to the Galleria! I've got your back!
If you go North of the Galleria, you'll hit a road that goes perpendicular to the tollway called Beltline. There are a ton of great restaurants on Beltline headed West from the tollway; my favorite is a place called BlackFinn (and I think it's one of the only restaurants on Beltline that isn't a chain). You'll also find a ton of the usual high-end suspects: Truluck's, Texas de Brazil, etc. Theres an Improv (the chain comedy club, not the comedy format) club right on Beltline, too, if you want to watch some stand-up.
If you're looking for mom-and-pop restaurants, head into Greenville -- it's really only like 30 minutes away from the Galleria if you're driving at non-peak times.

I second this recommendation. It's quite good.
If you're looking for something with a little history, Campisi's is pretty close to the Galleria. It's an Italian restaurant, known for its thin-crust pizza (pretty tasty) and being a hub for people with ties to the Dallas mob scene.

There's a quaint, authentix tex-mex place on the drive up there, just before you hit dallas. It's got a really fun, family atmosphere and a great margaritta selection. A nice place for a casual dinner.
I cna't remember the name, but they have this killer appetizer called an awesome blossom. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Please help.

OH YEAH! What IS that place's name? It's a great place for a date!
Be careful of the salsa though, it's PRETTY SPICY.

Addison is the restaurant Mecca of Dallas. Dallas is often a test-market for restaurants (particularly chains), and most wind up in Addison. My favorite restaurant in Addison is Pastazio's (
www.pastazios.com). It's an awesome New York Pizza Parlor (I don't know why I keep recommending pizza places, they just happen to be some of the more unique, awesome Galleria-area restaurants I know of). Snuffer's is also in the area. It's an excellent burger joint that is pretty notorious among locals for their cheese fries.

I also recommend Addison, my favorite restaurant is probably Cristina's. It's really good Mexican food for moderate prices. It's at Belt Line and Runyon (just west of Midway).
But like has already been said, if you drive down Belt Line between Marsh and just east of the Tollway, you'll find a ton of restaurants.

If none of these suggestions work out for you, may I recommend a made-up restaurant?
It's D'Apazio's in Wender Park. The have great homemade pastas and an amazing clam sauce -- definitely get one of the raviolis just to get that clam sauce. The owner, Glen D'Apazio, looks just like Hal Linden and blows his top every night at some point, so consider yourself lucky if its while you are there. All of his children are the waitstaff and Glen inevitably finds fault with one of them during the night. Last time I was there, his son Will wanted to go hang-gliding but had not yet finished his poly sci paper on pre-WWI Austria. Will got it good from Glen! Also the chocolate tort is to die for. Tuesdays at 8:30 on the WB.
