Austin Improv

Sundays in April starting on the 8th. 7pm at ColdTowne Theater.

Set in a record store, Vinyl Destination follows the fortunes of a diverse group of employees who can't agree on anything about music except that it sounds better on black wax. Although the same rotating cast of characters will populate the show each week, every show will be completely improvised -- including the songs and music that underscore their lives, performed onstage by the cast throughout each performance.

and starring: Cody Dearing, Christina de Roos, Kristin Firth, Karolyn McKenzie, John Ratliff, Bill Stern, Jason Vines, and Valerie Ward.

Tonight is the first night. We would love a nice sized supportive audience for the first outing.

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight to watch the show...especially most stressed wes w/ his camera.

I was stressed in 1000 different ways, but I was glad to be able to help and I hope the camera caught most of the action. It's hard to get a full stage shot at CTT, but I think most everything was captured. I might not (read: do not, but stated more politely) have time for any fancy editing but I'll get it burned to a DVD as soon as I can.

I've found the best place for a full stage shot is setting up a tripod in the corner next to the minifridge. getting a good angle from the sound booth is impossible without a wideangle lens

Luckily, Kristin was working the camera and was able to follow the action.

I'm running out of superlatives to describe the ass-kicking improv I've been seeing lately. I really didn't know what to expect from this show, and was completely blown away - it's a very cool format, and the cast is incredible. Every moment seemed genuine, and it was great to see a story emerge and resolve so effortlessly, punctuated by a handful of awesome songs. It was one of those shows where the improv is magic. You absolutely owe it to yourself to hit this one up, and drag every goddamn person you know along.

That's what I call an endorsement! Consider me sold.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to see the debut. I'm super excited to be working with this cast. The amount of talent on that stage is staggering. I'm looking forward to rocking the house with these guys for the rest of the month.

I've put up some photos from the first show here. Most are in black and white because the color brick always screws with my photos at CTT, but I think they add in some cases here. Photo 25 is my favorite from the show.
