I hope CSI runs someone against him just so we can see once and for all which crime drama America really prefers.

Seriously, though, who will be the Republican successor to run in '08?

Personally, I'm really looking forward to watching the Republicans tear themselves apart this next cycle in a way usually reserved only for Democrats. Each of the big three (Giulinani, Romney, and McCain) have aspects of their politics that will turn off big swaths of normally reliable Republican voters. Personally I have no clue whom the Republicans are going to nominate. I will go out on a limb, though, and say I think Obama is going to get the Democratic nod, and I think he's going to be the 44th Preseident. And yes, sure, a lot of things can change between now and November '08 and I reserve the the right to change my mind. But that what I know and think in March 2007.

So long as he doesn't go Dean on us. That dude was a revolutionary star on a trajectory to the top, too. But it turns out, young people don't vote. If Obama's appeal skewers too young, he won't get it. Period.

I think both camps will be fascinating to watch thisyear.

Nothing against Obama, but I think we're getting burned right now by a prez with little experience (particularly with foreign affairs). Even Democrats are going to recognize that and Hillary et al will use that during the primaries.

This is a good time for him to make a name and keep in the lime light. I predict he will end up as the VP candidate.

Even Democrats? I don't even know what that's supposed to mean.

Bush's problem wasn't his inexpereince--very few Prezzes come in with foreign policy experience (the last two were Nixon and Bush the first--not ringing endorsements for experience), but his unwillingness to learn from or admit to mistakes. Oh yeah, and a politicial ideology committed to "lookin' tough" and fuck what foreigners think, etc. I don't see those dynamics in play right now for any major candidates from either major party right now. Thank Gawd.

I do think that the Republican nomination right now is something of a poisoned chalice--these dudes are going to trip all over themselves trying to dance around the Iraq war and Bush's legacy. They can't embrace it but they can't reject it. It's going to be interesting.

I mean even Dems that are running against him for the party nomination will target Obama's inexperience (as well as the Republicans). It doesn't matter who has or has not had it in the past. Perception is everything and that's Obama's weekness in two ways: 1) We're in a foreign policy crisis right now and 2) It's a trait he shares with Bush.

Yours will be the counter arguement, Shannon. But when the negative campaigning begins, the explanations are not heard nearly as well by the masses as the negativity.

I like the guy and I hope he can overcome that perception. As of now, he's probably my personal front-runner. I'm interested to see how he handles the gauntlet.
