America: Freedom to Fascism

Post by TexasImprovMassacre »

I watched this documentary, America: Freedom to Fascism the other night and found it very interesting. Its about whether or not there is a federal law that requires you to pay income tax. The film's creators couldn't get enough funding to widely distribute this movie in theaters...so, in addition to DVD sales, an official version is now available on google video.

That's so weird. Ace just watched this on google video. He sent me links to lots of great BBC documentaries too. Google. Sweet.
They call me Dollar Bill 'cause I always make sense.

Yes there is, though the wording was poorly choosen/is misunderstood by laymen. The law has been upheld by intent in court time andd again. There is no loophole on that scale. Believe this only so long as you are truly willing to risk going to prison. Urban legend based in poor wording.
(Speaking of, you know this is dubious by its word choices. Just listen to how biased the language is. "All politicians would sell their soul for a dollar." or "Passed this law just so the bankers could line their pockets." Come on.)

However, we should seriously push to repeal the 16th (*cough* and 17th *cough*) Amendments to the Constitution which WOULD abolish the right of the state to tax your income.

I haven't seen this video, but I've seen a dozen like it and it is always a scam, which isn't to say the government isn't scamming you, too. You want real change, get rid of withholding and make people write one big tax check every year. Most people don't even know what they pay in taxes, and many think when they get a "refund" that they actually got money instead of paying, not that they merely got back the difference in what they overpaid. The system is designed to confuse, and quite purposefully so.

Believe what is true, not just what you want to be true and you'll avoid a lot of trouble.

Yeah yeah yeah, everybody hates taxes. Everybody wants services, but nobody wants to pay for them. Drive on free roads, have a military (ostensibly) to protect you, send your kids to public school for free, but don't pay any taxes. Whatever.

I'm not a huge fan of taxes either, but I understand their purpose. It's the colossal mismanagement and misuse of the revenue from those taxes that's irritating as hell.

(I'm sure every good hearted person who got into politics to fix the tax system and then got corrupted/warped/overwhlemed once they were in office said the same thing. Which is one reason why I'm not in politics.)

Well, the various battles over this topic and the ensuing misinformation that always comes out of it, has me leaning toward the idea of a national sales tx, or "fair tax" as some pundits call it.

If we all paid the same percentage on every item purchased, large or small, then there would be little room for confusion.

And those who currently buck the system, would be paying into it instead of the rest of us handling it all.

Of course, our fed would immediately find a way to make that slow and confusing as well. And I happen to be of the opinion that druggies, hookers, pimps, and illegals should be paying into the system they rape of its resources every day. But what the hell do I know?
