It's the Tom Baker scarf. You have to be a special level of geek to a) know his name b) know that his scarf is even significant and c) be willing to associate yourself with Dr Who.

But if you don't know those things, it's actually a nice scarf.

You've missed the geekiest scarf of all time: The piano keyboard scarf. No translation necessary; wear that and your geekdom is immediately common knowledge.

And if you don't know Harry Potter, the other scarfs just have some sort of school crest on them. But so many millions of people recognize those symbols and would squeal with glee, that they're not geeky.

If you explain to someone why you're wearing the insanely long Tom Baker scarf, I guarantee you they'll think "what a fucking geek/dork/loser"...

Look at what I'm debating! Lord, I don't enjoy my job.

And, for the man who just can't seem to cram genetics into conversation enough:

A man with good reason to be constantly reminding people that personal appearance is beyond individual control.

I made that scarf for a friend of mine. Not that one that he's wearing, but the same pattern, in black angora.

I was ready to throw my hat in the Space Invaders ring, but then the Plate Tectonics one popped up. Wow! That is all sorts of dorkdom.

I'd vote DNA, but only if they'd color coded the nucleotides.

That is extremely funny and well written.

Also I know some Dumbledorks with a Harry Potter scarf. It's too popular to be the dorkiest.

House Griffyndor scarf
Dr. Who scarf

I'm torn. I like both of these choices. As Bill points out, HP is kind of dorky popular so it's more heavy on Dork rather than Geek. However, if it were me, I would probably buy that one. Too bad it has those weird tassels on it. Probably bc it was designed for kids.

Therefore, YOU should get the Dr. Who scarf. You have to have some specific trival knowledge to appreciate it, and that is certainly GEEKY. Plus it looks nice.

I've been working on ideas for knitted cellular automata.

My first boyfriend taught me a method for cross stitching a fractal. I actually had an idea for a whole book of projects like this.

We were going to tile our bathroom wall like that, but couldn't find a pattern that didn't make you go crazy when you looked at it at that scale. A scarf would be perfect.

You should look at making tiles or scarves out of Life, my favorite cellular automata type thing.

you get crazy, but more controlled images like this:

Plus, you can just pick the cycle/shapes that you like.
