Dance/Nia/Etc

Post by Jules »

Does anyone do this regularly? In the new year, I'm looking to get back into dance (modern, nia whatever) and am not sure where to go or who to take from. Anyone else interested or already have a place they could recommend?

I was thinking of going to Nia Space on South Congress. I hear good things and they're right across from St. Ed's.

ballet austin and tapestry has the best ballet classes for adults. i prefer ballet austin classes on tuesdays and thurs by arletta. she's nice. for tough love, go to renata on tapestry.

tapestry has hip hop, jazz and modern as well. it's on sixth street but will be moving.

fouronthefloor.com teaches lindy and swing on tuesdays

austin ballroom dancers has classes on thursdays and fridays. i've been meaning to take the friday class.

argentine tango is taught on wednesdays.

i don't do nia :-)

I keep meaning to find that out too. I like the idea of blending the two, but I feel so dance-rusty I thought I'd start with Nia or something to get myself in gear.
I think NIA space might actually do a contact improv thing and I know the body choir folks do it.
I wish personally we could have a weekly dance jam but I do not feel qualified to lead it. Well, dance jamming I could, but not contact improv.

four on the floor's Lindy/swing tuesday night classes are really fun. I took for about 6 months before coming back to the jam on Tuesdays.

It is highly affordable and it is a style of dance men can take and enjoy, too.
