Worst and Best

Post by the_orf »

It seemed like these posts deserved to be a thread of their own:

Fun fact: Best President of the United States: William Henry Harrison
Justin didn't state his reasons for being pro-Harrison, but I'm sure he has them. And then he changed his vote on LBJ:

I will also amend my earlier post to give Reagan a voice of being the worst president... only because of the enormous shift to the right that the country took during the '80s.

I will also throw my vote in the ring for worst American of all time: John Hinckley, Jr. If that SOB would have had better aim, we wouldn't be in this mess at all... we'd be in an entirely different one.

Dude, you totally let slide the ineptitude of Millard Fillmore.

LBJ: Abused his position for the benefit of Texas over other states.

Reagan benefitted designers of minimalls and tv evangelists over the rest of Americans... at least there are some good people in Texas.

Harrison: He had the decency to die after a month of office.

Cold.

I'm not nearly enough of a movie historian to answer this one, but I'm sure with some nominations I could come up with some offensive responses.

For best, however, go see Idiocracy. This could also qualify as worst, depending on what criteria you use to judge.

Worst: yeah I gotta go with Kevin Kline too, or Michael Douglas playing yet another rich white guy who happens to be a president too. I'm inclined to go with someone famous, but then again there's so many of those movies where they just get a tall, older white guy with good hair. And what does that say about our view of the president.

Best: immediately springing to mind is Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove (as Pres. Merkin Muffley). This was such a small role, but he made it so memorable. The guy had a bad cold the day nuclear holocaust happens -- perfect. "Uh, hello? Demitri?"

I'll have to think about this though... good question!

What is everyone's problem with Kevin Kline?

"Dave" was a fine movie for what it was... and Kline is one hell of an actor in my opinion.

**I have to add this: I actually really like "Dave." As naive or simplistic as it is, it's a true fantasy. It doesn't need superpowers, magic, ficticious lands, goblins, wizards, etc. I appreciate a movie where the suspension of disbelief necessary is tiny.... not like a Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Ghost, What Women Want, or Philadelphia.

Worst: Cliff Robertson in Escape From LA. ( Only a bit worse than Donald Pleasance in Escape from NY)

Best: Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove or Barry Bostwick as George Washington.

I was the best President. Anyone who disagrees can take it up with myself and my good friend Teddy.
