FACT OF THE DAY: Monarch butterflies spend the winter at an extremely limited number of locations in the mountains of central Mexico. The wintering grounds, which were only identified in 1975, comprise no more than 12 forest sites as little as one acre, where as many as 15,000 monarchs can cluster on a single tree branch—half a billion, in all.
