FACT OF THE DAY: In addition to rods and cones, the eye includes a third type of light-sensitive cell only discovered in 1999 that tells the brain whether it’s light or dark out and governs our circadian rhythm. This sense operates independently of sight, meaning that some totally blind people can still tell whether the lights in a room or on or off.
