FACT OF THE DAY: Otis Redding’s signature whistling at the end of his 1968 hit “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” was a placeholder. Redding intended to return to the studio and record additional lyrics before releasing the song, but he died in a plane crash in December 1967, and the song was released as-is. It became the first posthumous single to top the charts in the US.
