FACT OF THE DAY: In 1979, miners in Alaska discovered a frozen 36,000-year-old steppe bison. Five years later, while the specimen was being prepared for permanent display, scientists stewed and ate a portion of the bison’s meat. The lead scientist pronounced it “tough but edible.”
