Shana is not available for the next three weeks, so for these next 3 Thursdays at the CT Theater, I' will be trying out my new show, Spices:

The year is 1700. Shannon McCormick plays Cornelius Corneliuszoon De Vries, 100-year old Dutch explorer, merchant, privateer, and politician who regales the audience with the adventures of his youth, depending on how well he can remember them. Featuring Dutch descendant Cristina De Roos as the Barmaid.

She'd better be in an authentic tavern wench outfit!

I'm working on it. If anyone has authentic tavern wench-wear gimme a holler.

I will let Shannon handle giving away the plot specifics, but I have to say that that dude is a true thespian. With only a few candles, a lace up shirt and a mug of malt liquor, he shot everyone back 306 years in time.

Get him a sturdy table and there's nothing Shannon can't do.

My only critique would be that I wanted to hear more stories.

Thanks everyone for enjoying the format! It was fun to try out, and it was nice that we got the genesis of Cornelius's story last night, his first time out on the seas. And remember, he was originally sailing for the Indies, and we only got to the west coast of Africa last night, so we haven't heard even all of this story.

Being my first mostly solo show (thanks for being in it, Christina!), I had no idea how much time had passes, etc. Next time out I think I will have a better sense of how to pace the show.

Also, in other news, I am now blogging daily at The Empty Collection if anyone would like to check it out. Is anyone here good at blog templates? Mine displays fine on Firefox but look like crap on Explorer. Anyone know what gives?

I thoroughly enjoyed that. I can't wait to hear more. I wish I'd brought a tape recorder. It'd be fun to put the shows up as podcasts.

1. Christina, please use the phrase "wenching it up" more often.

2. the show was awesome and I loved the storytelling. It is an entirely different art to story tell and not story act. Narrating on the fly is different than doing one-man scenes. It was a refreshing change of pace to the frenetic nature of most improv to see you just take your time and tell a story.

I'm flying my parents in all the way from Tennessee just to see this show!
