FACT OF THE DAY: 22-year-old film actress Dorothy Gibson was rescued from the Titanic when it sank on April 15, 1912. Her employer, Eclair Film Company, immediately assigned her to portray herself in a dramatization of the event; the 10-minute silent film “Saved from the Titanic” was released on May 14, just 29 days after the sinking.
