FACT OF THE DAY: In 1919, a con man named J.D. McMahon designed and built a four-story skyscraper on an 18x10-foot lot in downtown Wichita Falls, TX after raising $200,000 for its construction. The “world’s littlest skyscraper,” which still stands, uses about 25% of its interior space for the stairwell between the floors. McMahon’s investors sued him, but lost in court when it was proven he had followed his blueprints exactly; the plans showed the building to be 480” tall, not 480’ as the victims were led to believe.
