FACT OF THE DAY: Archeologists recently discovered lapis lazuli in the teeth of a 1,000-year-old female skeleton in Germany. It probably got there when the woman sharpened a brush in her lips. The discovery of the pigment, which at the time was more valuable than gold, helped prove that nuns, not just monks, illustrated medieval manuscripts.
