FACT OF THE DAY: Boris Skossyreff (born 1896) was a Russian con man who pretended to be a Dutch aristocrat and successfully infiltrated European high society. In 1933, Skossyreff moved to Andorra and received Andorran citizenship; in July 1934 he declared himself “Boris I, King of Andorra” and declared war on the existing co-prince. The General Council of Andorra voted unanimously to endorse Boris I and formed a new government and constitution. However on July 20, Spanish authorities arrested and deported him.
