FACT OF THE DAY: Sunsets during the Year Without A Summer were unusually spectacular, as reflected in paintings from 1816. Due to the particulates blown into the upper atmosphere by Mount Tambora, a “dry fog” dimmed the sun to the point that sunspots were visible to the naked eye.
