FACT OF THE DAY: In January 1992, a shipment of 29,000 plastic bath toys washed overboard while halfway across the Pacific. Oceanographers subsequently used the toys to study ocean currents; the toys were found on beaches in Hawaii, Australia, Indonesia, Chile, and—after traversing the Arctic for over a decade—eastern Canada and the UK.
