FACT OF THE DAY: A heat burst is a rare weather event where a mass of warm air is pressed down to earth, rapidly raising the ground temperature. On June 15, 1960, Kopperl TX was struck by a heat burst that briefly raised the temperature from 70 degrees to about 140 degrees. There were no injuries, but plants in the area were burned and desiccated.
