FACT OF THE DAY: In a 1989 episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard mentions that Fermat’s famous “last theorem,” first proposed in 1637, has still not been proven after 800 years. The theorem was formally proved in 1994, during the final season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
