FACT OF THE DAY: When the first Gulf War began in the summer of 1990, local news affiliates campaigned their respective networks for additional time to cover the unfolding news. NBC relented and temporarily gave five extra minutes, so that The Tonight Show began at 11:35 Eastern. Other networks followed suit, and local news affiliates never gave the time back.
