I think that looks fine for the Girls

One person side projects have to sit at the back of the bus. You hear that, Bearded Lamb!

this is fucking bullshit crouch. one too is a two person troupe, and would almost certainly give someone a chance to perform in wafflefest who otherwise wouldn't. why do side projects which have never existed before, and whose are totally contained within other troupes already performing, have preferance over an established project? this wouldn't be such a slap if i wasn't the only troupe on the initial list that didn't get a slot.

i am boycotting wafflefest entirely. make your own fucking waffles.

I'd also like to express a little bit of disappointment Andy...

Several troupes weren't even considered for Wafflefest.

What about Turning Cheek (Austin's only religiously inspired improv comedy)?
or Blue Rat 7 (Absurd realist Shakespearean existentialist improv from our generations youngest and most prolific minds)?
or Snickerbritches (Austin's only jump-suited shortform three-man improv)?
or Greg & Doug like Leaves (Longform character-based improv about the changing seasons)?
or Phil Talks About Tape (the newest solo (+ Doug & Greg directing) improv choose-your-own adventure show)?
or Me You & Someone (who even knows?!)?

Truthfully, it is a bit disappointing to see that some people are playing in Wafflefest 2 or 3 times. I don't think the blame falls squarely on Andy (as he's only performing once), but I would like to say that it makes me much happier to see SIDE-PROJECTS that are a mixture of troupes (Dark Bloodlords, Frogtown Hollow, Conspiracy Butter) rather than side projects that are whatever-troupe minus two people, etc. At least with side-projects that are a mixed grill, we all have the chance of being invited to play with them. Right?

We're going to run out of show slots soon enough, and it's definitely not fair to see the same people performing in 5 different troupes, taking up most of the available slots. I'm all for side projects, but seeing as how we are a "community" can't we all be a bit more inclusive.

The other day, Valerie asked me to direct a one too show, that alone makes me feel a bit more comfortable with the fact that Valerie is inviting other people to play with her, mixing-it-up a bit. Come on, if you want to perform with your troupe-mates, realize that you're already doing that every time you have a show with them.

Love to everyone,
-Phil

Flip Remarks

Let me start off by saying, in terms of Waffle Fest scheduling, people have valid points about established "side projects" taking a back seat to first time projects consisting of members from the same troupe.

That said, I think some of the concerns about groups consisting of members who perform together on a "real team" are way off base.

I haven't seen Cut or Threefield, so let me site 1 a.m. What Chris and Tami do with 1 a.m. is radically different than what ColdTowne does. It's solid, two person improv that's often better than a lot of "real teams" I've seen around the country. It's not some throw away side project they're using to get more stage time. They rehearse. They have a website. They're applying to festivals.

I think to equate that with some goofy throw away show concepts or to write it off as some people just fucking around is a bit insulting to people who take this seriously. If you want to slap together something for the Cage Match, great. If you have a group that's takes itself seriously (by promoting yourself, rehearsing, getting notes, etc...) then there's no reason, given the way that AIC Friday nights are structured, you shouldn't be given stage time. If anyone is worried about other projects cutting into their stage time, it's time to step up your game.

Maybe One Too and Bearded Lamb should have been on that Waffle Fest Schedule, but don't piss on everyone else to make your point.

Justin York and I have been rehearsing our two person show for the past three months and it has a unique format, so it's no "I'm going to submit another group because I can" issue.

When I submitted the group to Waffle Fest, it was under a strict "IF there is enough room, it would be nice to debut this here" type of thing.

I feel like one too and the Bearded Lamb are big parts of the AIC and more than a side project. Just like I feel that one a.m. has earned respect and should get more recognition than "just a side project."

I think another issue worth discussing is side projects that don't bother promoting their shows.

First, I would like to apologize for my pissy response. I was in a pissy terrible mood.

Second, 1 a.m. is my favorite troupe. I would never want anyone to think anything different. I love that people get a chance to do risky, interesting, experiemntal things in smaller more intimate groups. I would never consider 1 a.m. or bearded lamb or mcnichol and may or anything else "just a side project" as long as people put the same passion into it as anything else.

Third, I would never want another troupe to give up its slot to let me perform. In fact, if asked, I would gladly give up a slot to give an experiemental show a slot it wouldn't otherwise have. I'm excited about the new things people are trying and the new direrctions improv is taking as we combine and recombine and think and play and grow. Keep on doing it.

fourth, this is still bullshit. i feel personally selected as the only "side project," or any project, not worth being in wafflefest. THE ONLY ONE. I don't see why the number of people in a show makes it any less valid. And I would like to reiterate that just because i have a different person play with me each time doesn't mean there aren't two people, just like mcnichol and may has two people, and 1 am has two people, and get up has two people, and cut! has two people....

if there had been some sort of process or guideline or submissions, i would understand. but i feel arbitrarily left out for being a solo two person show. i think to leave one single troupe out, of all that applied, just makes me feel like the most unwanted person. i'm not the tpe of person who carers about getting a "good spot" in a festival. i would play on a tuesday night to three people. I just love doing my show and sharing the stage with all the awesome people that i wouldn't otherwise get the chance to. I just want to do this as much as possible because i love it. i am crying right now.

In Threefield's defense, we also made it quite clear that all "full" troupes should at least go before us so that everyone who wants to play can have at least one opportunity to do so.

Then, we'd duke it out for left over spaces with other subtroupes and amalgamations of people seeking 2nd and 3rd play slots.

Our format isn't set, but like so many other subtroupes' formats, it will probably be different from the typical longform stories that Pgraph does.

Yeah, good point Arthur.

Why didn't There's A Show Coming Up (the 2 man troupe of me and arthur) get scheduled?
