FACT OF THE DAY: According to quantum theory, if an explosion of sufficiently high energy were to occur, it would obliterate the so-called "Higgs field” that gives mass to all matter in the universe. This would cause a so-called “true vacuum bubble" that expands outward at the speed of light, obliterating everything in its path. The bad news: there would be absolutely no warning before such a bubble destroyed the earth. The good news: the universe is so big that even if this has already occurred, it might never reach us.
