FACT OF THE DAY: Until 1989, a heavily fortified border separated Germany from then-Czechoslovakia. Although the physical border is now almost completely eliminated, scientists have discovered that red deer populations on either side virtually never cross into the other country, having learned to avoid it from prior generations.
