FACT OF THE DAY: Webster Lake, located in Webster MA, was originally known as Chaubunagungamaug, Algonquian for “lake divided by islands.” In 1921, a local newspaper editor coined the exaggerated name Lake Char­gogg­a­gogg­man­chaugg­a­gogg­chau­bun­a­gung­a­maugg, which (very) loosely translates to "You fish on your side, I'll fish on my side, and nobody fish in the middle.” The longer name stuck, creating the longest place name in the United States.
